FAQ

Important, but boring technical information on such matters as:

  • Book availability: I usually only have one copy of these books, so it is best to e-mail me at: Email  to put a hold on a book before you send an order in.
  • If a book has an asterisk (*) next to the price, it means I have several copies and you do not need to reserve it.
  • Shipping: Shipping costs for most items are on the order form. Some items are more or less costly to ship. These books have the shipping cost listed in the book description. Shipping for international orders are at cost. Books are shipped at  book rate which usually takes 1-3 weeks unless you live in one of those places where it takes forever to get mail. If you want your books shipped  first class or priority mail, ask me to quote a price, It’s usually a couple dollars more, depends on how heavy the book is. Canadian Orders e-mail for rates and make checks payable in US funds.
  • Payment: I accept checks and money orders, I take credit cards through PayPal. At this time they only process US orders, so international orders must be through check, money order, cash, etc..
  • Customer Privacy: I don’t sell, give away or trade my customer ‘s mail or e-mail addresses.  I like my privacy and I respect yours!
  • Do you have a Store?: No I am strictly mail order.

About Broad View Books

I’ve been interested in history since I was a kid rooting through old attics in search of “good old stuff” As a 10 year old on a Family cross country trip my most memorable times were at the cliff dwelling of the Mesa Verde and the several museums we stopped at. Disneyland though enjoyable could not compete.

I got interested in genealogy in 1988 while talking with my dad who was terminally ill. He revealed that I had cousins in Chicopee. This was news to me. I always thought we were the only Crossley’s around. I started researching the family and he encouraged me. It also gave us something to talk about his final year.

I started Broad View Books in 1993 as a side line to combine my interest in genealogy with my love of books. I bought some genealogy books and sold them at community events. I threw in some used books and sold a few here and there. In 1996 my daughter was born 2 months early.  I put the book business on hold. I decided to quit my day job, stay home and take care of my daughter. It was very demanding for the first few years. In September 1997 I started working on the web site during her nap times. By October I was ready to officially launch my web site with my own domain name. I waited for waves of people to come to my site and buy lots of books. Well they must have been someplace else because not too many people came. In December of that year I started advertising on the genealogy mailing lists and answering questions on some of the New England mailing lists. Orders started pouring in and many years later I’m shipping books all over the world.
